Risborough Area Business Group

At the inaugural meeting of the Risborough Area Business Group (RABG) on 19th April, when nearly 60 people attended, I promised to write to all who attended, and to those who could not make it but asked to be kept informed, to give you a summary of the actions agreed and to set the way forward for this newly formed Group.

First of all, I would like to thank you all for the interest shown and the obvious enthusiasm for the new venture and also to thank Business Link and Wycombe District Council for helping to sponsor the evening’s hall hire and buffet.

When Bill and I were discussing the formation of the RABG, we initially envisaged that the RABG would be the primary business vehicle for seeking to influence future development within our area and to bring in new businesses and employment as well as helping the wider community to focus on local business issues.

There was always an unstated intention that the Group would also be a local 'business-to-business' exchange, and it is intended that our meetings will always provide opportunities for informal interaction between members. This aspect was obviously popular from the number of comments made by attendees who were meeting fellow local business representatives for the first time.

Concerns were expressed regarding general issues facing the business community in our area of parking, traffic, anti-social behaviour and lack of suitably sized business accommodation. These are issues which we will be taking forward in future meetings.

There was general agreement that our next meeting should be within a month when we will be focussing on setting up the committee structure, seeking volunteers to help to launch and manage the future RABG agendas – we have had several volunteers already – and to draw up and agree the RABG Constitution. As I see it, probably the meeting after next will be the one which will formally elect officers of the RABG and could be the first opportunity for businesses to make a brief presentation.

All present were requested to e-mail Bill with any issues that they consider could or should be added to a future agenda so that they can be reviewed for future action by the new committee.

I have selected a proposed date of Tuesday 17th May at 7.30pm for our next meeting and do hope that you will be able to attend. The Agenda will be circulated nearer the time. Could you please let Bill Bendyshe-Brown know whether or not you are able to attend? This allows us to confirm catering requirements.

Finally, I believe that this is a most exciting initiative and from the enthusiasm shown on the 19th I feel that with your involvement the RABG will be most beneficial to the local business community. As I said at the end of the meeting, if you know any other Company in the local area who would be interested in joining, please do invite them along and if possible, let Bill know their details so he can add them to our database.

Yours sincerely

Lance Adlam
